Learn to Paint in Oils

Three brand new original paintings on 9"x 12" canvases.

I've wanted to make this tutorial for some time now and am delighted to have completed the first instalment of paintings for beginners.

I can still remember my first faltering steps in oils aged five or six when I begged my Mum to buy me a paint by numbers kit. Little did she know how that gift would change my life. 

If my misty-eyed recollections strike a chord with you then you are in the right place. For some the opportunity to painting may come later in life and this set of three paintings is for you to cut your teeth on. If you like, my version of the 'painting by numbers' paintings that got me started.

To keep costs down I have chosen a small box of 6 water mixable oils ( Five colours plus White) and a bottle of water Mixable Linseed oil as the only paints needed (although traditional oils will work just as well). I used a limited number of brushes and 9" x 12" canvases in case space is at a premium. In fact the whole lot fits neatly into a draw or shoebox (size 12's!)  

This is a complete step by step painting tutorial of three paintings with reference photographs and line drawings for you to transfer to your canvases but you might want to try free hand drawing using them as reference. I also include some coaching notes which should be read in conjunction with the videos.
